Living in my own private Idaho

So the day after the 2024 elections, I deleted all my social media and vowed to not watch any news for the next 4 years. Say what you want, I did it!! What a new world!!

At first, the thing I missed most of all was seeing my adult kid’s posts and updates. It has been almost 4 months and I LOVE it!! Sure, I’m living in oblivion but I am less stressed and not so easy to anger.

In a world filled with constant noise and distractions, peace of mind can feel impossible to achieve. Many people are overwhelmed by social media and news, which often focus on negative events and create unnecessary stress. Choosing to delete all social media accounts and avoiding news can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life, free from anxiety and negativity. Social media platforms can be a source of stress and anxiety for many individuals. The pressure to keep up with friends and stay updated can feel heavy. For instance, a person might scroll through endless feeds, comparing their life to others. This often leads to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. By stepping away from social media, individuals can focus on real-life connections and personal growth instead of being trapped in a cycle of comparison. Moreover, news coverage can often be negative and alarming. News outlets frequently highlight tragedies and conflicts, which can create a sense of hopelessness. For example, after the 2024 presidential election, news headlines filled with reports of division and unrest can drain energy and hope.

Avoiding news allows individuals to protect their mental health and choose positivity over fear. Instead of worrying about the world’s problems, one can focus on personal goals and local community issues that truly matter. Additionally, not engaging with social media and news can lead to increased productivity. Without the distractions of constant notifications and updates, time can be spent on hobbies, learning new skills, or enjoying nature. For instance, someone who previously spent hours scrolling through feeds might now take up painting or learning a musical instrument.

This newfound time can lead to personal fulfillment and happiness, creating a more meaningful life. In conclusion, deleting social media and avoiding news can lead to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. By stepping away from the negativity and distractions of the online world, individuals can find peace of mind and focus on what truly matters. Embracing a life free from constant comparison and distress opens the door to personal growth and happiness. Taking this step may inspire others to consider their own relationship with social media and news, creating a positive ripple effect in society.
